Magellanic forest

It occupies the southern mountainous portion of the island, on the foothills of the Andes, wich in Tierra del Fuego changes its direction from the Continent, and runs from west to east, parallel to the coast of the Beagle Channel, emerging again in Staten Island. 

The forest has trees free zones (peatlands, coastal meadows, forest clearings) reaching a considerable area especially in the southeastern part of the island. From 600 meters above sea level, the forest gives way to the vegetation and the snow-capped Andes
